Fredericksburg State Teachers College in the Early 20th Century
Our website is a collaborative history project made in Spring 2024 that documents the life of two students at Fredericksburg State Teachers College from 1927-1928 and 1929-1931. This is used to show how student life at University of Mary Washington has evolved through the last decade and the impact campus has had on individuals. Using Catherine and Mary’s scrapbooks, this project has pieced together a case study of academic life during their time at the college, as well as exploring their personal lives and how each lived at the institution as well as Fredericksburg. Our site includes a timeline of events on the homepage and select items from the individual’s scrapbooks, along with biographies of both Catherine and Mary under their own individual sections.
Our project also aims to examine and document the process of digitization with a focus on how to best manage scrapbooks and other mixed-media projects. This project meticulously explains the entirety of the digitization process at the University of Mary Washington from selecting the objects to digitize to putting the selected images onto the created website.
