The James Monroe Museum Political Cartoons page was built using Omeka by the 2012 iteration of the Adventures in Digital History class. This website is a collection of political cartoons from the 1890s to the 1960s, which are currently housed by the James Monroe Museum. The cartoons were scanned and digitized as items.

The site’s timeline was broken, but salvaged. Programmed on Omeka’s Neatline Time plugin, the timeline no longer accepted the cartoons’ published dates as it used to. Omeka’s page explaining how to install and use the tool claims that dates can be written in four formats:

  • January 1, 2012
  • 2012-01-01
  • 1 Jan 2012
  • 2012-12-15

This is no longer the case. Because the input dates were being inaccurately read, Neatline Time defaulted all of the events to take place in 1970. The dates would only be accurately displayed if they were in a numeric format (2012-01-01). The events had been placed in a private collection called “Timeline Events” in 2012. The team changed the dates to the accurate format to fix the timeline. No further changes need to be made as of 2022.
